When You Left
by simon pritchard / Tuesday, 17 January 2017 / Published in All Posts, Simon's Writings

When you left
The world it cried
All the people died inside
All the mountains fell to earth
And all the money lost its worth
All the oceans dried to dust
And all the buildings turned to rust

The birds once free lost their wings
And none can hear what no one sings
They lost their wings
And lost their song
And so I teach them all night long
A love song pure and free and true
The song I tried to sing to you

And all the eyes were soon made blind
And all the runners fell behind
Because I’d never loved like this
And never had such beauty kissed
So when you left I lost my life
And solitude becomes my wife

And so I walk upon the shore
And I will walk there evermore
The tide goes out and won’t return
The sun beats down to heat my burn

And where you were there is a space
And no one there to take your place
And so I walk a billion miles
To where the exiled hide their smiles

Mistakes I made I pay the price
I lost my chance it won’t come twice
I touch deep love when I touched you
I touch a beauty real and true

My fingers running through your hair
Now they run through thinnest air
And when I look into the sky
I’m looking with an empty eye

I’m deep so deep in love with you
It seems there’s nothing I can do
Wounded so you fled away
As far as nightime flees the day

When you left
The world it cried
And all the people died inside
And all the mountains fell to earth
And all the money lost its worth
And all the oceans dried to dust
And all the buildings turned to rust

And all the eyes were soon made blind
And all the runners fell behind

I never reached the finish line
And not until Eternal Time

And though I know there is no hope
I’m climbing still without a rope
Reaching for a dream so high
Higher than the highest sky

Where birds once free lost their wings
And none can hear what no one sings
They lost their wings
And lost their song
And so I teach them all night long
A love song pure and free and true
The song I try to sing to you
