I came upon a creature
As soft as soft can be
In a trap of loneliness
Pining to be free
I took her to my heart
I worshiped her complete
I loved her with a will
And swept her off her feet
I kissed her in the dark
She held me in her light
I knew that I would stay with her
Everything felt right
She said that I had taken
Her loneliness away
I asked her we be married
And waited for the day
But then the stars turned on me
Turned me upside down
And on my head a foolish hat
Where once had been a crown
I left my love too much alone
She wandered from my side
And when I went to look for her
She’d found a place to hide
And then at last I found her
As soft as soft can be
Caught in a trap of loneliness
Pining to be free
I called her to my heart again
And worshiped her complete
But now she’s disappeared to
A place we cannot meet
